As we expand our collection of Baby and Travel Bags with the introduction of Nylon, we sat down with our Founder and Creative Director, Sophie, to dive into the year-long journey behind its creation.
When did you first start thinking about Nylon?
Our journey with Nylon began about a year ago when we started noticing a growing interest from customers and research, particularly in the US. Through customer feedback and social media, we saw a rising demand for a lightweight yet durable fabric, qualities that make Nylon a great choice.
We also loved the idea of introducing something completely different from the rest of our range, broadening our appeal to a wider audience.
What did the first few samples look like?
Well, they were blue! We used a test Nylon fabric to perfect the structure before moving on to final materials.
We were drawn to the curved, bowler-style shape, simple yet stylish. However, achieving that shape while incorporating the extension flaps on the sides was a design challenge.
There was a bit of back and forth, which is why we created the construction samples. Our goal was to refine the design and address any potential issues before cutting into our final fabrics, minimising waste.
How do you ensure the bag holds up in daily life?
Although Nylon is inherently durable, we put all our top samples through rigorous wear testing, led by our team.
Our Nylon prototypes have traveled the world with us - through China, London, South Africa, Hawaii, and across Australia. It’s been to school drop-offs, playdates, and probably (at some point) Ari and Otis’ playroom.
Who is the bag designed for?
This bag is truly for everyone, but it’s especially useful for women looking for a travel or baby bag. Nylon is an incredibly strong material. Beyond being lightweight, it maintains its shape even when carrying a lot, which is part of its appeal.
Another major benefit is how easy it is to clean. Just a bit of soap and water is all you need, making it perfect for (most) everyday mishaps.
What’s your favourite bag from the collection?
I have to say, I love both of my “children” equally! But lately, I’ve been reaching for the Ali more for my day-to-day routine, especially when heading in and out of the office. That said, I brought the Brody with me on my trip to Sydney this week, and I’m absolutely loving it.
